Some sightings tracked down...

Spoke to a source close to the investigation today. One topic of conversation was the alleged sightings of Maura Murray after her disappearance.

Police responded quickly to one sighting, driving to a home, only to discover Julie Murray at the door. Seems the sisters are so similar in appearance they often still get mistaken for each other. It's happened a couple times since the disappearance.

  1. It might be helpful if a picture of Julie be made available to get a better idea of how Maura might look today since it has been almost 8 years since she disappeared. I am not sure how close in age they are.

  2. What do you think about the Internet rumors of her living in Canada with a "handsome" man? Someone (possibly a troll) said as much on Topix. I don't know if the post is still up.

  3. The Topix post by "Tourist in Canada" appears to have been deleted. (There is a ~150-post gap between the post numbers within the thread and the selection numbers at the bottom, indicating that about 7% of the posts there are gone, perhaps due to whatever there rules are regarding unreasonable speculation, etc.)

But it remains quoted and acknowledged by George from Clinton, Maryland on page 108 (presently the second-last.)

  4. Anonymous @ 8:00pm- can you post a link to the thread? I can't find it so I must be looking at the wrong thread. Thanks!

  5. If the sisters Maura and Julie are in fact so similar in apperance as Mr Renner´s post indicates, would it then be too much of a "conspiracy theory" to cautiously suggest that it is a possibility - however seemingly far-fetched - that it might have been Julie rather than Maura behind the wheel of the Saturn at the Weathered Barn Curve on Rte 112 in Swiftwater,NH?
After all, the schoolbus driver Butch Atwood never expressed any real certainty that the young lady he briefly spoke with by the Saturn was in fact Maura Murray.
By all accounts that I have read over the years, it seems that this female wore her hair "down", rather than "up" as Maura almost always did, unlike in the photo of Mr Renner´s blog.
Was this lady actually Maura Murray?
Most likely yes, but there is still a margin left for not automatically accepting this as a foregone conclusion.
Remaining openminded about this is, I believe, an important virtue in this context.

  8. I doubt it was Julie Murray driving Maura's car. I think Julie was on active duty when Maura disappeared. Consequently her whereabouts were known and accounted for.

  10. I was interested to read Michelle´s comment that Julie Murray apparently was on active duty when Maura disappeared.
This is the first mention I have seen of this on any public forum, IIRC.
Are there any other sources around which can corroborate this being so?
    Thanks!

  11. It was not Julie so lay this rumor to rest. However, I do think its weird that BA said that the girl had her hair down that night when she frequently put her hair in a bun

  12. >>> I do think its weird that BA said that the girl had her hair down that night when she frequently put her hair in a bun.

Ever since I read this bit of information several years ago I've wondered whether her father had slapped her around that night at the motel and she was trying to dissimulate the marks on her face. And remember, the police won't show the video at the ATM and at the liquor store the day she drove up North - do the videos show her face clearly? And no one saw Maura after the night at the motel, except her father, of course.

  13. This might sound far-fetched, but hear me out. I am a girl who almost always wears my hair up in a ponytail or bun. I dislike having my hair in my face, and I get the feeling that Maura did too. The only time I will take my hair out of my ponytail? If I'm meeting a boyfriend. Men love it when girls wear their hair down.

    1. Good point. I don't think it's far-fetched at all. I personally don't find the "meeting someone" or "driving in tandem" argument very compelling but I think the fact that her hair was down is the best argument for those scenarios for precisely your reason.

Let me ask you though. She was just in a car accident. Probably bounced her face off the air bag pretty good. Lots of times people get bruises or black eyes from air bags. Could she have let her hair down in the aftermath? Maybe the impact messed up her bun?

    2. Wow.

Thanks for sharing the insight that some "girls" are so shallow that they would intentionally do something they don't enjoy so that "men" will find them appealing/attractive.

Not all "girls" care more about being liked by "men" than being themselves.

And the image of "men" with "girls" is disturbing on a whole other level.

So, morale of the story, you think Maura is just as shallow and self demeaning as you are, got it.

  14. Anonymous @6:31 am: Agreed.

Anonymous @2:08 pm: Interesting, and not something I'd considered. It's certainly possible... Fred isn't known for restraining his temper, that's for sure.

  15. Was just wondering if the police ever gave any reason for not releasing the cctv of Maura at the ATM or in the liquor store. I would think if they wanted to jog peoples' memory who might have seen Maura that evening it would be the logical thing to do.

  16. I agree it was not Julie. Please folks, let's not add confusion! In my opinion, suggesting it was her in the car is way off base. Also, it was possible Maura's father was irate when she totaled his car. I would have been! However, I do think it is a leap to suggest he wacked her around. I think it was possible she was very upset with herself for wrecking his car. No one likes their father disappointed and/or irate about something they did. He was there to buy her a car and he gets his totaled! Maura must have been very upset with herself!

  17. The speculation that it was Julie behind the wheel is so far fetched that it is defies rational thought. If you look at the previous newspaper articles, you will see that Julie was in the Army at the time, and had to go on emergency leave to help with the search for her sister.

Second, although people "always" wear their hair in a certain manner, does not necessarily mean that they are wearing it in the same fashion on a particular day. Case in point, if you look at the picture Mr. Remmer has up on this blog, you will notice that Maura's hair is down, not up. In such light, the premise that she always wears her hair up is totally inaccurate.

Last, I don't believe Fred "smacked her up." Even if he was upset and yelled at her, I think it is not even a remote possibility that he did anything out of anger which could be construed as physically or emotionally abusive to her.

If people would refrain from posting all kinds of conspiracy theories and inaccuracies, maybe, at the end of the day, this blog will become productive.

  18. I really don't think she is alive. But, no harm in checking out sightings.

  19. Can someone please tell me how long it was between the time the bus driver reported the accident and the time police got there? If she left the scene of the accident why did the police car responding, not see her walking? And if she was "taken" from the scene of the accident minutes after the bus driver last spoke to her, how is it possible that not one saw anything???? After all has it not been reported that the bus driver's wife and someone else saw her from their house?

  20. I have long hair and wear it up if I am reading, drawing, exercising, when it is warm out, etc. When I am in cold conditions it is down-period. I don't know what the temperature was that night, but NH in Feb, snow and a car that is not running...I would take my hair down from a ponytail as soon as the engine shut off!
