Allen and Patricia Prue Allegedly Stalked, Murdered Melissa Jenkins Together

Just when you think you've heard it all...here's the sick story of Allen Prue and his wife, Patricia.

From ABC News:

Prue told police he wanted to "get a girl" on Sunday night, and after he was confronted with evidence, confessed to the murder, documents stated.
The documents depict a grisly scenario, stating that Prue told police he began to strangle Jenkins after she got out of her car to help him, and that Patricia Prue jumped in and assisted in the strangulation.

Police were able to trace a call made to Jenkins back to a prepaid cell phone purchased by the Prues.

I don't know. Is this the Prues only murder or are they practiced stalkers?

Allen Prue ran a tow truck biz and once plowed Jenkins' drive.

It's at least worth taking a look to see if he was in the Swiftwater/Bath area on the days Maura Murray and Brianna Maitland went missing. We'll see how this plays out.

Kudos to the Vermont police for the quick resolution in this case!

  1. Absolutely kudoos to VSP in this case. They stated there was no danger to public as this was a targeted case. The details are unnerving, suggesting practice.

  2. It's hard to believe they (together or individually) never did anything like this before. It was planned, gruesome, and they certainly made sure to have some tarps and bleach on hand.

What's so horrifying is that I can believe Maura might have accepted a ride from these two. You don't think of a husband and wife together as presenting the same danger as a man alone might. You'd let your guard down.

  4. This is so sad, her little boy witnessed it and apparently made strangling motions to his neck when the police talked to him. I really hope and pray he'll be okay as he grows up. I can't fathom a 2 year old witnessing his mother's murder, makes me sick and heartbroken.

  5. My thoughts exactly, 8 yrs ago Hannibal Prue would have been 22 y.o.
Waterford VT approx 25 miles from Woodsville NH. I wouldn't be surprised to learn police have found a serial killer.

  6. It will go to murder 1. Premeditated, but clumsy.

Likely a first murder. Luring a known victim is quite careless, as, in transit, the victim could have told any number of people who they were helping. Using a self purchased Walmart phone is also foolish. A relatively easy visual i.d.

These people are rock box dumb. The botched m.o. ensures that if they were able to perpetrate a previous murder, their evasion of capture was purely accidental

One possible caveat to the first murder theory:

If they were regular killers, their mania could have reached a certain point of desparation or peak, and they could have forgone the usually safe procedures, functioning out of a delusional sense of invincibility or urgency. Not likely.

via the phone is quite careless, since the victim could communicate with an

    A clumsy murder though.

  7. It is easy to make the argument for a homicide since that seems like it is what most likely happened. These two people just do not seem like they are the ones. I would have at least hoped that police would have considered her to be a runaway for a while. I think a brunette, if she wants to fool people, would make sure she ends up a blonde. Did police check on this type of scenario?

  9. As much as I enjoy Vermont and New Hampshire, I just can't help but realize they are hotbeds for craziness. It's sad.

  10. The idea that this murder is any way related to maura's dissapearance is something of a reach. Having said that, the comments on this blog and James's thoughts are very intriguing. The more I read, the more questions I have. The idea that maura took off to start another life isn't as farfetched as I origianally believed.

  12. It would be interesting to see how many people think Maura Murray was either murdered, ran away, or committed suicide albeit accidentally.
It is hard to believe she was traveling in tandem with anyone. I think a depressed person would drink alone and if they did travel in tandem why take two cars? Maybe the person was up in New Hampshire, but they could not have predicted the accident, gotten a phone call, and gotten to Maura in such a short time frame without being seen unless they lived very close.
Time really is the key to this case. Why is she in such a rush to go to wherever it is she is headed? She basically loses an entire hotel day by leaving so late in the day with as much driving as she has to do. Did she file her FAFSA in time or apply to any colleges by the deadlines if she intended to transfer schools?
The rag in the tailpipe is another mystery. The person, if it was not Maura and Maura was able to drive the vehicle after would have no way of knowing WHERE Maura would break down at. Many have commented how Maura could not have run away because why would she crash in front of a bunch of houses? This is a valid point.
Still, there is something that makes me believe this girl is smarter than alot of people think. Maybe she was book smart, but that does not mean she could not plan and pull off running away. It was always interesting to me that the Jigger Johnson campground is on the same road(correct me if I am wrong) as the road she traveled and there is that gas station she passes along the way.

That is why I believe it is a runaway. According to the dog scent, she ran in the WRONG direction. She never intended to stay with the vehicle because the rag could only be put in the tailpipe by the one person who knew it would not be hot and that it would not affect WHERE the breakdown occurs: Maura Murray.

What is most unusual about the case is that one moment she is planning, the next she is acting uncharacteristic of her plan. She is calling GO STOWE but then does not mention anything to her boyfriend. She heads to presumably a hotel but is going to show up drunk? One of the aspects that makes one speculate is whether or not she was actually drinking. The alcohol has thrown such a twist into the case because people believe that is why she left the car. Maybe that is what she wanted people to believe? Maybe it really is a case of a plan that went awry or maybe it is an awry plan that went off perfectly?

One commenter said it best when referring to Maura's state of mind: "If you think about doing it, then you would think about how you would do it."

  13. Actually true VT and NH people will suggest the craziness all began with those buying up vacation properties bringing their craziness from other states.
Allen Prue was a native but Patrica was not.

    1. I'm from Maine and I'm not surprised when natives in both those states blamed it on non natives and out of towners. Most of them seem to live in their own little world up there. "Crazies" are everywhere.. in every town, every city, and every state.

  14. A group of new posters have recently migrated to Topix from this blog about Maura Murray. They are in touch with each other by email, and actively seek to identify the names and locations of persons posting anonymously on the Maura Murray thread at Topix, Franconia NH.
They have no integrity and no valid reasons to be take these actions against people who choose to post anonymously.
Let it be known that there are stalkers at Topix who are so ignorant as to believe anything they are told about people they do not know, and then go about placing innocent people in fear for their safety.
They will chase down anyone who is not sympathetic to the Murray family. It's just like the original MMM forum, except now they don't just go after "perps" they believe are responsible for Maura's disappearance, they also go after public posters!!!
    Buyer beware.

  15. One thing that always made me think this case was a runaway and not a murder, at least not initially is Maura's cell phone. Every day you see females driving with that cell phone talking on the phone. Now she calls her boyfriend concerned after the first accident on Sunday morning and also calls him twice on Monday afternoon before she leaves the dorm room. So the assumption is she wants to talk to her boyfriend.

At some point she leaves the dorm, and if she had not checked her messages on her phone the whole scenario would have been believable at least to me, because in terms of TIME no one would really have any way of knowing whether or not she wanted to talk on the phone. They would not know WHEN she decided to stop speaking on the phone or getting calls.

She checks her messages at 4:37 pm. three hours before the accident. The one conclusion I kept coming back to was simple(despite all the drinking, etc.):

    The phone was already off.

  17. So, the male perpetrator plowed snow? Anyone remember the April 2011 SOCO article (page 81 here to be exact:http://issuu.com/soco/docs/april11?mode=embed&layout=http://skin.issuu.com/v/light/layout.xml&showFlipBtn=true&pageNumber=76) where Susan Champy mentioned something about a couple shady dudes that plowed snow along 112? Might be something to look into.

What are you getting at? I know on Sunday she said she didn't want to talk to anyone...why are you so adamant that she really wanted to talk to him so bad? I didn't get that impression at all. Maybe she wanted to talk to him, but I don't see why you're making such an issue of it; doesn't seem that important to Maura.

Sorry I just saw this. It all depends on how long the last phone call to her voicemail was. The ironic thing is that we both agree although you do not understand why. The moment she leaves the dorm Mr. Rausch is out of her life, that is if you believe what I believe, that this is a planned runaway. That is why she calls him so everything seems normal. That way it does not seem like she has any intention of keeping info from anyone. It makes it look like if she had gotten ahold of him that he would have been told of her intentions. So why did she check her voicemail, her last call? That is a question that only she knows. Maybe someone left her a voicemail? If they did then it makes sense she checks her messages. She did try to contact Mr. Rausch on three seperate occasions that final day. Maybe it was so early in her trip that she wanted to make sure that he did NOT call, or else he and others would wonder, since her accident takes place 3 hours later, what she was doing during that time?(because the phone is to be turned off) If Mr. Rausch had answered his phone, what would she have said to him?

This is all speculation. Even if you can establish that she wanted to runaway, what happens later, the accident, the booze, the bus driver, are all events that cannot be planned. That is why this is such an interesting case. I have tried to find another that is as creative as this one but I cannot. I think she is a very intelligent individual and because I believe this is a runaway, I also believe that she probably just wants to be left alone.

Everyone has problems, but every situation is different too. It is not my place to judge her. I am sure she had enough people already who have done that. It is a great plan though. She is a forethinker. Even now, I have trouble believing it is actually a runaway too. That is the only thing I understand.

  21. Is it possible Maura was in her first episode of bi-polar disorder? Hence the lack of judgement, credit card issues, uncharacteristic heavy drinking, spontaneously leaving town.
