The Horizon Beckons

Topic Post
June 19, 2013

Without even the faintest of hard feelings, I decided to move on from posting to James' blog.  I still think that James has a real chance to solve this case and I support everything he is doing.

I have some interesting new things to turn my attention to.  If you have been in touch already, please drop me a line, you might find my next thing interesting.  If you have not been in touch, feel free to contact me and say hi.  I'm at John88Green@yahoo.com.

As for some other information I collected and developed during my trip, I will make it available to James at some point, although I need a breather for now.  I will make it available to anyone else also.  Just email me.

Keep up the good work here.

  1. Are you still looking into Maura's case? Or are you taking a breather from all of it?

  2. oh!!! nooo !!!! You are very important to this blog !!!! If you don't contribute the trolls would have gotten what they wanted...which was to undermine serious legitimate discussion...

  3. Not departing due to trolls. Automated means exist for James to control them easily .... e.g., new members get trial period of approval before posting to give asses like Contagiously Complicated too much to work to do to reregister. With some simple means, I think the tenor here can continue.

  5. As someone pointed out to me earlier this evening, I was actually looking forward to your contributions in the beginning.

    Apparently, I posted this:

"Super excited about John Green. His contributions thus far have always been interesting and articulate."

And believe it or not, I am truly disappointed that things have come to this. I've never called you names or threatened you. I've simply tried to be a part of the discussion, but you seem bent on discouraging me. At this point though, I just find this as further proof that you aren't able to take a challenge.
Good luck to you in your future projects.

    1. That you think I am departing about you proves ...

      You are an idiot.

Read that book. You need help.

  6. John,
I wish you all the best with the new things you are planning to do. I have to say I feel sad about your leaving. Your posts were always interesting to say the least and the fact I had to think about what you were saying made them even more interesting and valuable to me. You have put a lot of time and effort in this blog and you deserve a big THANK YOU for that. I really hope we will hear from you again.

  7. Safe Landings John.

I think any time a blog becomes a "chat room" it is in risk of going off the tracks. If another administrator steps up I hope they edit every posting for content, after all, it isn't a chat room.

    1. I will make some recs for James on that. He is pretty busy now, but if he can get a couple things set up most trolls don't have the attention span to get around them.

You'll always be welcome to contribute here. Keep us updated on what comes next!

  10. As I said to James ... I think if she is found, he will play a key role. Keep at it. There might be some good things coming from other directions down the road. James, to ease your monitoring burden, require approval of comments for new people for their first few comments. That way if you ban someone, they have to develop an attention span in order to ruse 3 comments, which either a troll either won't do or - in doing it - will have to develop the required maturity, which could make their posts worthwhile.

You should be able to designate varied permissions like that on blogger. If not, buy a domain name from Godaddy and its easy to point it here as the blog domain name and Godaddy gives you the ability to vary permissions.

In honor of me ... I ask one thing: please ban for all eternity that non-sequiter substance poison Contagiously Contaminated or whatever he calls himself.

GO JAMES! Ya'll make this work.

    1. Good lord! Will you stop worrying so much about posting approvals and "trolls"........ You seem to have a great analytical mind but your sensitivity switch is hair trigger.

      Delete
    2. Are you trying to validate the value of my advice to Renner, or are you too stupid to see that you do? Or both? You dumb ass non-sequiter.

      Delete
    3. Wow. You are one angry guy. In just two lines of post you called me "stupid" and a "dumb ass". Working behind the scenes might be a better place for your than directly on-line. I think you've gone over the edge with your anger.

      Delete
    4. Good one Wag More. What relevance to anything is your superior attitude in evaluating me personally: "great analytical mind" and "hair trigger sensitivity." Why would you post that? It is not relevant.

So I simply went along with your view of the world and offered my assessment from you in a similar posture.

Plus I and probably others know who you are and so you are responsible for the context in which you are seen, which is not very favorable.

    1. Hey there.

I am most likely not done writing about the case. If you want, send me an email and I will include you on an invite. It got to the point where the information I pulled together demanded a different approach. So I am going to shift the locus of my analysis, but still with in mind helping Renner. Email me if you want to participate.

  19. John,
I admire the vigor and hard work you dedicated to this case. Nonetheless, I hate to say it but you have fed right in to those who criticize you with your behavior in these comments. Those who say you are hyper-sensitive and unable to accept being challenged certainly look to be accurate after seeing you post not one, but two, three or four responses to every comment that has been critical of you...often only in response to your previous posts and not those of others. Beyond that, your petty, immature name calling only takes that perception of you to the next level...everyone who has called you out in these comments has done so respectfully and within the boundaries of decency...you are the one who chose to take it to the level of immaturity. I hope that, in your future endeavors, you can learn from this experience and be better off for it.

    Best of luck,
    Tom

    1. Thank you Tom. I was about to make the same observations. John, I thought it was completely unnecessary, immature, and offensive to resort to name calling. You have tracked down some very interesting leads and obviously are very invested in the case, but for me many of your contributions get lost in your overly combative manner. Good luck with your future endeavors.

    2. Nicely stated Tom. I think many have felt the same way but were apprehensive about speaking up. Perhaps now that the fanfare over the 'Bon Voyage' is drawing to a close everyone can get back to the matter at hand. Criticism is a healthy and necessary component to any discussion, otherwise it's just a speech. Agreed that some posters cannot be as eloquent in their comments as others, especially so when being critical. Let's try to overlook the minor and ignore the flagrant. It will be a much better place.

    3. Thanks for the comment Tom.

Personal criticisms have no place in any discussion of anything. I take your comment in the spirit intended, but personal criticisms as laid out by others (just lathering anger at a person without any substantive about the case) makes no sense and does not belong here. I have some things cooking re: Maura that will make this point in a different way.

    4. Keep in mind that not all comments made on this blog have been approved, either. 4 or 5 of mine were not. So there may be more complaints about Mr. Green than we realize.

For what it's worth, Mr. Green, I think it's important to realize that when you post your opinions publicly, you open yourself up to disagreement. Just because someone disagrees with you does not make them a "troll." If your skin is that thin, maybe it is right for you to move on. Good luck in whatever you decide to do in the future.

  20. John,
When you say keep in touch by email, do you mean you will be in contact with us individually or will you set up an email list? Because even though I never comment on here, I do read and would like to keep in touch even if we have never spoken before.

    Thanks

  22. John's departure after not even 2 months is puzzling, although his tone has, I think, hurt the credibility of this forum. His middle of the night exploit gives one pause as to the credibility of his style, so from my vantage point, no real loss.
James, keep at it...we are all hoping for a resolution to this case!

  23. Ok.....Mr. Renner: maybe it's time for Mr. Green to stop posting here. There is something wrong when you continually see posts like this:

"Good one Wag More. What relevance to anything is your superior attitude in evaluating me personally: "great analytical mind" and "hair trigger sensitivity." Why would you post that? It is not relevant.

So I simply went along with your view of the world and offered my assessment from you in a similar posture.

The anger level, the name calling..his responses are juvenile yet very hostile (and troubling).

    2. I found this blog a very interesting read (as well as Keep The Search alive's blog), but Mr. Green has brought a childish, nasty, and, well, creepy vibe. I won't be stopping by to follow this blog any longer. Best of luck to you Mr. Renner.
