A new look at one of the North Country's Coldest Cases
I'm loving these podcasts!
Can you listen on Android?
Download the Stitcher app.
I use Podcast Addict for podcasts. You can even use the iTunes search. If they have it, you can get it with that.
Yes I listen to them on the Stitcher app.Reading through the blog and all this information it seems she ran away and daddy financed it. I believe they know where she is. She was a 21 year old that didn't realize her problems would be made even more public and have her life examined even more if she ran.
Who called the police in the Toyota accident? Supposedly maura left her phone at the "party" so she couldn't of called unless someone was riding with her or had a different phone. In the Seventeen article Sara said Maura left around 2:30 am. The accident happened around 3:30 am. What was Maura doing for that hour? Did the officer write a report from the accident? Was there pictures taken of the car ? Has anyone spoke with the tow truck driver? He might have insight on whether he thought Maura was drinking or not. I wonder how much Fred had really drank. Enough to not hear your daughter coming in your hotel room. Could she of been heading there to take the 4000, knowing he was passed out drunk? Who was the nursing student Maura called? If Maura left a VM was the police able to hear it? I wonder if Maura left around 4 because she had to wait on someone to get out of class or work? The picture of Maura when she got caught with credit card fraud does look like a completely different person. She has a paleness to her face which sometimes addicts have that in there face when there using. Whether its drugs, alcohol or maybe being bulemic. I wonder if she had been drinking when she ordered from the credit card. To me it seems she was on something when she was busted for credit card fraud.
I love the questions you have here... but I want to point out that the picture could also look that way for a few other reasons. She had just gotten in pretty major trouble and it was taken by the cops - not a friend. That means something as simple as the flash reflecting off the cinderblocks could make her pale and it might not be an indication of her struggling with addiction/eating disorder. You should see my driver's license photo. No, you shouldn't. Because it's wretched. I think it's a big jump - have we seen other pics of her from around that time? That would be interesting to look at... like a timeline and see if it looks like deterioration or just one bad shot.
It's not just the paleness to her face , it is also the way her face is sunken in that makes me believe she was addict to "something" . I have known people that were bulemia, addicted to drugs and there face was sunk in with a paleness to it. Exspecially in photographs is when you could most notice it. I believe it has been said that Sharon Raush said Maura would drink alcohol in her coffee. Also that in her dorm room people knew of her bulemia. Whether it's true or not we don't know but I think her picture tells a lot. Maura had a fullness to her face and in the picture she doesn't anymore.
Lol Im sure you look fine Nancy. I think it was a face where shes not posing to be photogenic. I think that is her pedestrian face.Nothing wrong with it shes just not smiling.
If Maura was with her two friends an hour before the wreck, could they of been heading to see Dane Cook(the comedian) somewhere? And then leaving or taking Maura to her destination. Her friend Liz said they recieved an e-mail from Maura stating she wanted to see Dane Cook on Feb. 12. When did her friends recieve this e-mail? What was the last day students could drop classes without penalty? Was it Feb. 9 2004? Could that be why she left on Monday Feb 9, because she had no more time left to stay in the dorms if she wasn't going to be a student?
Sadly, as much as I would like some elaborate story and Maura being alive. I just don't find it possible at this point. Most people don't voluntarily go missing. Ultimately, I think this case has a simple explanation, albeit a sad one. However, I think only two people know the real truth...and one is unfortunately dead.
Maura definitely had a darker side. Petty shoplifting cosmetics, credit card fraud, lying to teachers, cheats on her boyfriend. I think she's capable of anything and my armchair psychologist alter ego wonders if perhaps she is in the 25% of the population that doesn't have a conscience.
25% of population without a conscience! Where do you live?
You know what they say about statistics ;) but the figure seems to be more like 1-4%. (That's still a lot of people.)One page I saw showed 15-25% of the prison population "show signs" of being sociopathic, but didn't cite the source. (http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2012/08/as-many-as-12-million-americans-are-sociopaths.html)
It has been suggested throu out the blog that she is a sociopath, I kinda agree.
Yea I am cracking up with how dramatic the guys were on the podcast about Maura's "mug shot". It just looks like an old picture taken with maybe an old cell phone or cheap digital camera. It could have been a copy machine copy. Either way I don't see this evil the guys were talking about.
To me looking at the photo, I see someone who may suffer a narcissistic personality disorder. By no means am I a doctor, but did study psychology in college. Everything that I hear with the small infractions in her life and the lack of real consequences leads me to believe she she may have suffered from this. Perhaps it was not depression. I keep thinking about what Fred said in Disappeared..."If one car accident is all the trouble this kid gives me in 21 years..." but in theory, he knows about the theft at Westpoint, the credit card theft and God knows what else...sounds like there was a darker side people are refusing to acknowledge.
The picture was creepy to me. Maybe not as creepy as the podcast made it out to be, but it doesn't look like the same girl. There is the impression that the mask has slipped. This is a posed, "fake smile" picture like the rest. We all have secrets. We all make mistakes. Still, how does one get kicked out of West Point and then continues their old tricks at the new school? This is someone with no remorse for her crime(s). Otherwise, one would not continue with the same patterns. Not only disregard for the property of others, but a consistent disregard for the truth--lies about a "death in the family," lies to her boyfriend, lies to the track coach. I don't think anyone knows who Maura was not even her closest friends.
