Someone Just Solved Alden Olson's Puzzle

Just about 4 years ago, a Walmart greeter from Hadley began posting cryptic videos related to the anniversary of Maura's disappearance.

What followed was a couple months of hysteria as people wondered if this was Maura's killer taunting authorities or just a rabid Internet troll. It was covered by newspapers in the U.K. Eventually, the Murray family released a statement saying they believed he was nothing but a psycho with a police record for stalking and threatening to kill members of his own family. Olson went on to threaten me and my family, but Mass prosecutors never held him accountable for his actions.

In one of the videos he posted before he was identified, Olson showed the hand-drawn picture above, left. For years, people have wondered what it meant. If it was a map, what did it lead to? Well, yesterday, a reader from Alaska finally figured it out.

The numbers and directions from the drawing match up really well with a brochure from Bretton Woods, the skiing resort that was referenced in another video by Olson. Check out the numbered circles.

I believe this is a definitive solution and clearly Olson was trying to suggest Maura's body was somewhere on the ski resort. It's unclear if the grounds were ever properly searched.

  2. Has anything else in the investigation ever referenced this ski resort? I can't remember.

    1. Olson referenced Bretton Woods in another of his creepy videos, depicting a XC ski ticket from 2/11/04.

  3. Puzzling, good sport. Remember, this coming from the guy who thought Maura was Silkwooded by the military. So there ya are.

  4. One problem I have with this explanation: Bretton Woods Ski Resort is over an hour away from Maura's accident scene - and the quickest way there is NOT SR 112. To get there from the accident scene, a driver would need to get to SR 116, take that to SR 3, then hop onto SR 302. That's quite a bit of time and effort. Then again, stranger things have happened.

    1. Or a driver would just need to be lost, or taking back roads rather than major roads because she's driving a damaged car/drink driving and is more likely to encounter police and be pulled over on bigger highways. There's also the (admittedly slim) possibility that she could have been trying to shake off a pursuer.

    2. I think a possible point of posting that was to get people to think a crazy f*ck abducted her and took her body there. It wouldn't have to be super close to the accident scene but it's not THAT far.

      That combined with the coordinates, the email "hackings" with the podcast guys, and other shady things points to something weird as f*ck IMO.

  5. They say a lot of times a person who committed the crime will put themselves in the middle of an investigation
    In Maura's case there have been several people to put themselves in the investigation. Why? Just for Kicks or are they hiding something?

    1. Yes that is true, but a case this old, and with so many attention starved crazies out there, I'm not surprised by any of this.

  6. Where is he now? Meaning, is he free and roaming? Though that is probably just some sicko who loves messing with people.

  7. Interesting, considering we didn't quite know what to make of the Bretton Woods pass previously.

    Wasn't there mention of two brothers who made snow at Bretton Woods who traveled rt 112 frequently?

    Quite an odd place to possibly dump a body...at a public ski resort.

  8. Alden Olson actually had a BW Ski area ticket for the same time Maura went missing. So what IF Alden REALLY is the DIRTBAG.

    Where did Beagle / Alden disappear to again all of a sudden. He is very elusive at times.

    1. Fred Murray has stated that he wondered if a "dirtbag" had gotten his daughter. Also Olson's laughter and Happy Anniversary in the video are a twisted reference.

  9. I have to say it ... this is a long stretch to the point of snapping. The pattern maybe matches a little, sort of. But if lodging this suggestion were his purpose, it would have been easy to make it match better. Beyond that, and more importantly, even if it was Alden's intent, it is not compelling: all it means is that someone who has propounded a number of ridiculous ideas is oddly, almost indecipherably propounding another. Finally, consider the fact that - at least based on what I have seen and learned - Alden almost certainly did not make those videos by himself. He was probably encouraged, cajoled and assisted in the technophile process by another famous nut job associated with online discussions Maura's case. And that person is an even less reliable source of meaningful information.

  10. I wonder if his Wal Mart co-workers know what a odd guy he is?

  11. Just learned two persons of interest moved out to Alaska but the lid's tight on details. No, I don't know.

  13. And our tax money goes to containing a Justice System that is supposed to protect us from scumbags like that. Keep this in mind, we no longer have any legitimate form of government through local, state nor Federal. The people are being manipulated out of fear. Clearly this isn't the point, but wouldn't you think we'd be closer if authorities would just put cases like this into question and ranking? For crying out loud, it's been 12 years. Somebody should have cracked by now. This is just as mysterious as the Ray Gricar case.

  14. I suppose anything is conceivable, but the heavily landscaped grounds of a resort hotel would seem about the least likely place to hide a body. It seems a lot more like that this was just one more of Olson's ways of being obnoxious for the fun of it.

  15. Do you still have doubts about this sickos relevance to the case? Why would he post those videos and give the sick reactions that he did? To make matters worse he then threatened people investigating. Does law enforcement still have their eye on him?

  16. Were there any construction projects happening at Bretton Woods during February of '04? That's the only way I can imagine someone disposing of a body in a public ski area. It would have to be someone with access to that construction site (employee?). Being the middle of winter, unlikely, but possible.

    1. The middle of the winter, especially in the White Mountains, is not a great time for any sort of construction. The earth's often stiff and frozen, thus it can't be easily dug. Furthermore, you can't pour concrete as it will freeze up before solidifying and leave you with something that will not support the load you think it will. To say nothing of not being able to pave anything, for the same reason.

  17. I don't see how this is a "definitive solution." The numbers don't match up at all. What am I missing?

    1. Perhaps it's jumping the gun to say that this is the solution. As you point out, it's very much an approximate match, at best, between the relative positions of the numbers on Olson's drawing and on the Bretton Woods brochure. That raises another question. That kind of numbered listing of points of interest on a map or flyer is very common. I'm sure that lots of resorts and attractions in N.H. and Vermont use that format. Looking first to Bretton Woods is reasonable, but might there be other possibilities worth checking out?

  18. I've kept up with Alden's blogs for quite sometime now and notice a stark removal between the Alden in the blog's and the Alden in the videos. He is very well written and does a great job of writing, in my opinion, but comes across totally different in his videos. The videos feel forced, but at the same time I recall that most people I know that have a high intellect and are good writers, have a very odd and chaotic sense of humor and timing. It all feels like a game. You read his blogs, there you see an educated man who is well written, but you when you look at anything with him regarding this case, he's totally different and comes across as a psychopath. It's a game to him for sure.

  19. Can someone link to Alden's blogs?
    Also I don't see the pattern in the ski lodge?

  20. To take this a step further, if you visit the Bretton Woods website, you can find the whole map that James has shown. But, if you look to the right of the hotel, there is a golf course. The course looks like the picture of the face. Alden's blinking eye must have referred to that specific golf hole. Here is the link to the map:

    1. There is no question in my mind that this map is what the symbols mean. Now granted, he was probably making shit up, but I do think the Brettonwoods map is what he was using to make his cipher. The red zig zag is a rough representation of the building, the numbers solidly match up, and to the right, that face does resemble that golf hole.

  21. Does police know about this? Wonder if her body is buried around there. Strange. I believe she is dead. Possibly either where Alden's map says or in Haverhill

  22. On that ski resort brochure the numbers on that drawing represent

    1= Omni Mount Washington Hotel
    5= Fire pit
    8= Stone pillar Lodge
    27= Forest cottage

    Nothing to it I'm sure but just figured id throw that out there.

  23. History suggest that serial killers can't just get away with it , they can't leave and then ride off into the sunset. They need to remind them selfs and others of their accomplishment , what they was able to do and continue to do and sometimes taunt the police or the loved ones of the victim. History has shown us these time and time again killers who have not been caught , they looked at it from every angle and every aspect and made sure they could never be caught. They plan long and hard so they are not able to get caught. People like Jack the Ripper, the zodiac killer, they had long gotten away with it but we're compelled to flirt with the idea of being caught. The correspondence with the press and the police. These certain people weave a intricate web, and will lead you down many false rabbit holes as they can't make it easy for there pursers. But if the right mind looks at the right angle maybe they can see that maybe it is not a map , and maybe it's a way of life a code, but there is a code to their modus operandi, their cipher, their from hell letter. I believe that a serial killer killed Maura and he has killed before with a different MO and a different geographical area, but the core meaning is 1 5 8 27 in many different forms almost like their bible this person I will add is also very religious and the number like I said is not a map but a code and will link to many things when the time is right and all the clues have been assembled hopefully we can see who was right and who was wrong.

    Please look at psalm 27 of David and read 1, 5 and 8 and see that the code Alden used in his video was not a map and was never intended to be so, and neither will it tell you what you want to know . I have been looking into this and have found some truly interesting stuff, but if history tells me one thing this can and will not be solved it was never intended to do so.

    Thanks John William McGrath.
